Q. What is fair-trade ?
A. Fair Trade is a social movement that aims to help producers in developing countries obtain better working conditions, ethical treating and guaranteed wages to promote sustainability.

Q. What is Sustainability ?
A. In order for something to be sustainable we must address economics, politics and ecology.

Q. What Is Organic Cotton ?
A. Sustainable farming practices have been used to produce organic cotton without chemical pesticides, defoliants or fertilizers. These practices do not pollute ground or surface water, soil or air. Organic cotton is safer for farmers, for you and for the environment. Organic cotton feels softer, smells cleaner and is less likely to trigger allergies.

Q. What are pesticides ?
A. Pesticides are defined as “ any substance or mixture of substance intended for preventing, destroying, repelling or mitigating any pest.”

Pesticides are not only then detrimental to our health but also to the farmers who go into debt for taking out loans in order to purchase unnecessary pesticides in order to grow their crops.

Q. What other methods can be used?
A. The world survived long before pesticide use. LeAF cotton uses natural resources such as combining cow urine with chilli to protect the crops and create an enriched earth with natural fertilizers.

Q.Why buy LeAF organic cotton ?
A. Farmers get a good premium for their crop.

  • It is healthier for you and the earth.
  • It is incredibly soft to wear
  • Synthetic fibres come from petroleum and we are running out of petrol; it's a simple equation.

Q. What is the problem with conventional cotton ?
A. Cotton is considered the world's 'dirtiest' crop due to its heavy use of insecticides, the most hazardous pesticide to human and animal health. Cotton covers 2.5% of the world's cultivated land yet consumes 25% of the world's pesticides, more than any other single major crop.

The chemicals used on conventional cotton are among the most toxic substances used in farming, the runoff from irrigation seeps into our drinking water and contaminates it. Organic farms respect our water resources by eliminating the use of chemicals that pollute. The primary focus is building healthy soils together with protecting and conserving water resources.

Q. What is LeAF's GOTS certification?
A. The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the worldwide leading textile processing standard for organic fibers, including ecological and social criteria, backed up by independent certification of the entire textile supply chain.

Q. What does LeAF ultimately stand for?
A. Hug a tree, embrace life, wear LeAF……
